SIDNEY, Neb. - Superheroes, princesses, firefighters and even a few dinosaurs took over the Cheyenne County Community Center this week as children at The Learning Korner Preschool and Kids Korner Early Child Development Center celebrated Halloween with costumes, songs, stories, family activities and candy.
The festivities Thursday and Friday, Oct. 29-30, included classroom celebrations, games, performances for parents and a special trick-or-treating visit with residents at Pole Creek Estates.
"We had a lot of fun," Learning Korner lead educator Cassie Challburg said. "We went to extended care and trick-or-treated with residents there. We had a lot of games and performances for parents."
Three-year-old students welcomed parents into their classroom for Halloween crafts, finger songs and a story read by Challburg.
While the visits lasted approximately 15 minutes, Challburg said the experience meant much more to the children and their families.
"It's great to have a fun interaction with parents, because of our busy schedules, parents drop off and say goodbye," she said. "It was great to see them interact with their little ones and also the little ones show them their room, friends and what we do in preschool."
The performances also gave preschoolers an opportunity to practice following directions, staying together and participating in front of an audience.
"You think it's a quick 15 minutes, but it's a huge accomplishment for these kiddos," Challburg said. "Staying on the green line, listening to Ms. Cassie, all while their parents stare them down."
